I ...Thank you for hosting the read-along, Natalie! I am sorry I'm so late in replying. I've been crazy busy and haven't been able to get online much. I really liked the format of the book and I think that't what really made the book for me--giving the book a true to life feel. I hope you enjoy the movie. It was very different than the book but fun.Literary Felinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13079276242303738719noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4324469465904961710.post-77699179323674179472013-07-01T19:11:07.307-04:002013-07-01T19:11:07.307-04:00I'd like to read this. Loved it - and Brat Pitt is certainly easy on the eye!Vintage Readinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05971819409379613967noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4324469465904961710.post-15982879900170644072013-07-01T10:52:54.568-04:002013-07-01T10:52:54.568-04:00I listened to the abridged version on audio, read ...I listened to the abridged version on audio, read by an all-star cast, a couple weeks ago, and then I saw the movie last Friday. I thought the audio was fantastic—definitely a great way to experience the story (although, being abridged... I do want to eventually pick up the full book and read the parts I missed). The movie was fun, kinda ridiculous and cheesy in a few spots, but overall I enjoyed it and had fun. Yes, it is very different. I would have liked the movie to take place after the war, like the book, instead of while the outbreak was happening. I don't agree with all of the things that went on in the book, but could totally see it happening with any type of outbreak.
The quote you picked I think sums the book up best.

The astronaut's story really stuck with me as well as the one set in the mountains of India. I'm anal about the movie/book thing so I'll need to read before i see the movie, but I'm glad you mentioned they're not the same. I read Robopocalypse last year which used the interview technique on runaway machines rather than zombies, and I liked it. But World War Z came first.
Leslie (Under My Apple Tree)https://www.blogger.com/profile/17822229389189435951noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4324469465904961710.post-29742541279719494282013-06-25T11:19:21.057-04:002013-06-25T11:19:21.057-04:00So, I didn't read along with you guys because ...So, I didn't read along with you guys because you started the read-a-long before I was ready to start the book. But both you and the movie coming out inspired me to get with the program and read it already!

I definitely think that the book is worthwhile and intend to see the movie, although I have heard the two are very different. But it makes sense because how could they make the movie with Brad Pitt as the main character if it's like the book?

The format of the book is my favorite. No lie, I felt like I was reading a historical account. Like a real one. I kept explaining it to my husband like it was real, but had to preface with "I KNOW it didn't happen but. . .
