My Weekend Will be A Game of Thrones...

Since I am stuck in the in-between of hoping someone wants to rent my house so I can move up to Virginia where my husband has already started in his new job, I have chosen to spend my weekend with this most fabulous book by George RR Martin. Game of Thrones...why have I not picked this up sooner? I'm 500 pages into an 800 page book in just a few days and I cannot put it down. Medieval family saga of honor, loyalty, betrayal, and battle...I cannot wait to sit down with the HBO series tomorrow after I finish this book.

Two quotes that I cannot forget:
Never forget what you are, for surely the world will not. Make it your strength. Then it can never be your weakness. Armor yourself in it, and it will never be used to hurt you. (p.57)
Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the fire that burns against the cold, the light that brings the dawn, the horn that wakes the sleepers, the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come. (p.522)
Happy Reading,
Natalie, the Coffee and a Book Chick

  1. So glad you are loving it. I have read the first two and loved them both! Happy reading.

  2. I've heard lots and lots about this book. Must go add it to my wishlist.

I saw you were listed in the literary blog directory, and I thought I'd share with you a blog hop I find fun, the Literary Blog Hop. This week's prompt is to tell about your favorite literary device. Here's my attempt to pick my favorite literary device.

Also, I'd like to invite you to throw your name into the hat for a $25 Amazon gift certificate in Readerbuzz's July Giveaway! It's international!

I hope you will stop by. I always follow back.

(And I apologize for the cut-and-paste post....I'm not always so tedious.)

  3. I've heard so many things about how addictive this series is that I'm afraid to get started on it! :--)

  4. I am planning to try this again -- I don't know why I found it so hard to get into the first time. I'm glad you're enjoying it, though.

  5. My husband just finished the first book last night and has already started the second book. Enjoy!

  6. My husband has read this a couple times (as well as the rest of the series). I've never had the desire to but seeing you enjoy it makes me think I should reconsider!

  7. I'm reading it too! Well, I'm reading Feast for Crows now, because I've been whipping through the series at a breakneck pace.

  8. Sounds like a good book to be stuck with. I've heard nothing but good things about it. Hope you enjoy the show too!

  9. I tried this series about 5 years ago, and for some strange reason, could not get past the first 200 pages. I think that I would probably do better now, as my reading tastes have changed a bit and I appreciate more fantasy than I ever did before. Maybe I need to try this one again. With the HBO series out there, it might make for a great read. Hope that you end up being thrilled with it!

  10. I bought this one yesterday. I'm saving it for when I have a few free days as I know I'm going to get completely sucked in and not want to go to work!:p

  11. Well this sounds intriguing. I am going to add this to my wishlist. Love the quotes, especially the 1st one.

  12. Glad to see another book blogger converted :)

  13. I've had a number of very loyal bookish friends telling me to read this FOR YEARS. I guess I need to finally actually do it!
