Sunday Salon: Well, That's Sort of Busy.

A hectic week so here's what I want to tell you about...
  • The blog. I love the new design of my blog by Forever Design Studio so I want to do a giveaway. One lucky winner will win $50 towards a project with this designer. Stay tuned this Tuesday...
  • A year long project. Who doesn't love Stephen King? Never fear, he's not all horror, so to discover Uncle Stevie (I'm a new fan), Kathleen from Boarding In My Forties and I started The Stephen King Project. Participants have linked reviews at the site already. Feel free to join, but make sure you link your announcement post to the site. It's easier to stay organized that way. And yes, there are levels to this project, but who cares? Have FUN. The levels are there for those who like to track stuff. We are giving prizes monthly, though. Just sayin'.
  • Audiobook love. Liz Michalski, author of Evenfall, recommended Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book, and I love it. I've got a couple of hours left, can't wait to see how it turns out.
  • More audiobook love. Cassandra Campbell, audio narrator for the books Very Valentine and The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, is fast becoming a favorite of mine. Sandy from You've Gotta Read This! recommended The School of Essential Ingredients, so I'll start that today.
  • STILL Unpacking. *blushes* I moved from Florida back to Virginia three months ago, but one room was filled with boxes that my husband and I hadn't tackled yet. We jumped on it Saturday, so we have at least six trips to Goodwill to donate our stuff today. How did I move all this just to give it away? Argh. So, it feels better to de-clutter.
  • Life Coaches and Inspiration. A good friend started her business as a Life Coach which is just awesome. Alison has a Master's in Counseling Psychology, is established in her role, and is wicked organized and positive. Her Facebook page is chock full of this positivity and inspiration so swing by and gave her some Facebook love by "liking" her page.
That's on the docket for me. Unpack, organize, listen to The Graveyard Book and The School for Essential Ingredients. Busy day, right?

What about you? What are you doing today?

  1. Wow your blog looks beautiful! And yeah - a fairly bsy day you've had there! I hate unpacking, so my sympathies there but the rest of it sounds awesome. Happy Sunday :)

  2. The Graveyard Book is a fantastic audiobook! I still love your design so, so much. :D We're going to have to start packing up our stuff to move soon and I'm terrified of how much useless stuff I have floating around. It's going to end up as a couple of boxes of clothes and a zillion boxes of books! Happy Sunday! :)

  3. I love your new design. Oh how cool it would be to get help on blog design. I am pathetic. And you couldn't do better than Graveyard Book and Essential Ingredients. Just prepare yourself for serious love and gushing when you finish the Erica Bauermeister. Then you will have to go out and get Joy for Beginners. LOVE.

  4. The Stephen King Project sounds interesting. I was looking at my Goodreads shelf the other day and was surprised how many I had already read by him. I'm hoping to tackle Under the Dome at some point this year.

  5. I moved back in April and there are still some things that need sorting out - life keeps getting in the way!

Good luck with your Stephen King project. I have liked most things by him I've read, although I've only read his 'classics'.

  6. We move stuff that we later get rid of every time we move. Sometimes it's because stuff that worked in the old house just won't work in the new one. I hope you find time to catch your breath.

  7. I do love your new design...I've been noticing it for awhile and was curious about it.

I have lived in this "downsized" space for 4 1/2 years and have lots of stuff in the garage still. I tell myself I'm "storing" the things there, since the contents are in see-through bins. I do have some empty bins, and think I should take stuff out of my indoor closets and put them in the garage. That way I can extend the "storage" illusion a bit more...lol

    Organization is always a challenge!

Here's MY SUNDAY SALON POST and
    MY WEBSITE

  9. I listened to the Graveyard Book several weeks ago - keep meaning to do a review but oh was it excellent! Unpacking seems to take forever no matter how far one moves. . .good luck! and have a beautiful Sunday

  10. So, I think I'm going to sign up for Audible today, with my first audiobook being Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. I've also heard good things about the audio version of BossyPants.

Being that you enjoy audiobooks so much, do you have any recommendations for really good audiobooks (the kind where the audiobook actually ADDS to the story)? Thanks for anything you can recommend to me, my dear!

  11. Love the new design! Gorgeous! Have fun with the Stephen King. He seems like such an interesting person in addition to being a good writer. I listened to Neil Gaiman read The Graveyard Book on his children's website, and it was fantastic. He is an excellent reader, and not all authors are.

  12. I love the new look...it's so sophisticated and streamlined at the same time :) I'm always nervous about changing the overall look of my blog; there are some things I'd like to change that are beyond my design experience but I don't want to lose me in the process of changing the design...does that make sense?

On our last move from TN back home to MS we ended up with a particular set of unpacked boxes in our new garage for a year. When we finally tackled them, we realized there was nothing in them that we'd missed or that we wanted to save for sentimental reasons, etc...a true learning experience about buying/keeping things we don't really need. Just makes more work at moving time ;)

  14. It does sound like a busy week! We have a rule that if you don't open a box for a year after a move, you are allowed to throw the stuff in it out -- you probably didn't need it as much as you thought :) Have a great week.
