Only Muggles, no magic? Can it be any good?

After months of hushed discussions and no advanced copies forwarded out to reviewers, we can finally learn if JK Rowling's Muggle-filled world with no magic is any good. Although fairly lackluster reviews of the author's first novel for adults were finally posted today by The New York TimesThe Guardian, The LA Times, and the Washington Post, I just got my copy this morning. So we shall see...

  1. I'm thinking it will be a bomb, only because everyone is expecting it to be so great. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on it.

  4. Can't wait to hear what everyone thinks of this! People need to go in with a somewhat of an open mind - it's not fair for people to be complaining that "what's wrong with this book is that it's not Harry Potter"! I look forward to your thoughts :)

  6. I'm not reading any reviews of this one until I can read it myself. I'm trying to regulate expectations in my brain because I don't want to go into it with Harry Potter on my mind.

  7. I keep going back and forth whether or not to read this. I have soooo many on my TBR that it is hard to justify buying another book. I am interested to see what you think about this book.

  8. I'm pretty much banking on the book being a disappointment. Not that I want it to be, but with all the pressure on Rowling from everyone to produce another hit like HP, well, I'm sure it didn't help her. I've read some reviews and they have not been that encouraging. I'm definitely looking forward to your post on the book. And I'm sure that I'll read the book at some point, because I'm going to want to see if she can write more than just HP books. Enjoy the book!
