The Sunday Salon: A Sabbatical

I knew I needed to take a mini-hiatus when I realized that it had been two weeks since I last posted and I hadn't really thought twice about it. In fact, I forgot about it completely. That was a sign.

I don't necessarily think this will be a long break at all. There may actually be a post or two even this week, but I am ruminating over whether or not to take a more formal break that would have an actual timeline with a "return" date, etc.

My new role at the company I'm at requires even more time and travel, and that needs to be a priority, of course. Add to that all the other distractions of life! So, while I'm still even more so on Twitter, I'm not going to feel so guilty if I don't post frequently for the next month or so.

Here's my current reading/listening list:
  • Reading The Burn Palace, by Stephen Dobyns
  • Reading A Storm of Swords, by George R.R. Martin
  • Listening to the audiobook The Little Stranger, by Sarah Waters, upon recommendation from Book Lust.
Thanks for your patience, friends and readers.

  1. Well, that is exactly what I did...took the whole month of January OFF. The holidays just really did a number on me. And frankly? I don't miss it so much. I like not having the pressure I put on myself to always have something to post. We will see how long my cushion of reviews lasts me come February 1st. (By the way, LOVED The Little Stranger. I love Waters something fierce.)

  3. This is supposed to be fun so occasional breaks make sense to me.

  5. You have been missed.I enjoy your posts, but completely understand the need to priortize work, family, then blogging. I think for the most part, bloggers all understand this and have an appreciation for those who do need to take time away. Blogging isn't so much fun when it becomes a chore. Enjoy your books :D

  10. Miss you -- but glad you're taking time for yourself (and that you hadn't faced a horrible tragedy or anything!). Hope we see you back, but only when you're craving this space again. Enjoy your reads.

  11. If you take a break I wouldn't give yourself a deadline... you never know when you feel like popping in. I seemed to have a mini break from August - December... I never actually left but boy my posts slowed down. :)
Enjoy your books and audio :)

  13. I take unplanned mini-breaks often - sometimes work just gets too much and I need to simplify. Enjoy your break!

  14. No guilt is definitely the way to go. I'm not on a break but I cut back to two posts as week, because that's what my life demands right now. Enjoy your break and I'll hopefully see you soon!
