First and foremost... ohmygah, Sherlock comes back to PBS tonight. TONIGHT!

Today is an interesting one. Although cold and gray when I rolled out of bed to tend to the little one, it turned into a so-bright-it-broke-my-retina day. I'm still huddled inside, the baby sleeping, and I was just able to make that second cup of coffee (finally! At 2 pm!), only to jump onto the laptop and figure out how to mess around with the iPhoto Library (which I am NOT enjoying, still. Four years later.) Anywho, I figured since I haven't been reading as much, I should share with you what I am at least trying to read, whenever my new little boss tells me I can have a few minutes to read.
  • On my nightstandThe Goldfinch, by Donna Tartt. I loved The Secret History, and this is on every reader's love list, it seems. I love the way she writes. She strings words together and it becomes art on paper.
  • On my iPad: The Sun and Other Stars, by Brigid Pasulka. A little slow to start for me, since it seems to focus so much on soccer, but this is key and the writing is beautiful thus far. I received a copy from the publisher primarily because it's set in San Benedetto (my husband's middle name!) in Italy. And you guys all know how much I heart Italy and am trying to move there.
  • On my audio: Well, that category title doesn't make sense. But it suits the list. So anyway, The Snow Child, by Eowyn Ivey. Narrated by Debra Monk. About twenty minutes in and am already mesmerized.
And in other news... I've been playing around with the idea of changing the blog up a little bit. More to come on this, but if you've been visiting me here over the past few months, you probably already know what to expect. But hopefully I can still surprise you?

  1. I don't get iPhoto. I still bumble about with it too after several years. Sherlock! Squee! On the Donna Tart front, I read Secret History and loved the writing but very much disliked the story. It has made me hesitant to pick up the chunky Goldfinch. Can't wait to see where you are headed with your blog!

  2. I don't think I've ever tried to use iPhoto but I guess I have it since my laptop it's an Apple.

  3. I want to read The Goldfinch. Sounds great! I have been shifting the focus of my blog some too. I will still be doing book reviews but I am making it a personal blog as well. :)

  5. I have the Tartt book on my kindle, but have yet to dive into it. For some reason, I've been wanting quick and easy reads lately. Maybe its the weather. By the by, I love your ring!

  6. Funny how I have never met you, but yet find so much that you say is something I would also say/read/watch etc. Kinda weird… But I also am anxious about seeing the new episode of Sherlock (DVR), and have Goldfinch on my reading list (and now that I know she has a previous book I will have to check that out as well) and I absolutely LOVED The Snow Child. Look forward to seeing what the new year brings to your blog.

  7. I've been eyeballing Goldfinch, but have held back only because it's SO DAMNED LONG! I am awful with long books. I'll be interested to know what you think of The Snow Child. I listened to that on audio too, and it was gorgeously written but a little bizarre. I'm not sure I fell in love with it the way everyone else did. And I'm not sure I've ever completely figured out iPhoto. I use it, but I can't say I'm proficient.

  8. I haven't read Donna Tartt, I tried to listen to Secret History once and the reader wasn't doing it for me so I moved on.

How's the little boss doing today? I got your message about WP and Twitter logins not working. I don't know what they did. I have one blogger who hasn't been able to login with twitter for over a year...so maybe it's not WP but something else?? I am just now commenting on blogs this morning so I am going to try to comment with Twitter to see if it happens to me.

  9. I was so glad to see Sherlock on again. And it was a fun episode. Sad to think two more and we'll be done and in for a looooong wait.

  12. Yay for Sherlock!!!

The Goldfinch has been on my radar ever since it won the Man Booker Prize. It's been on the bestseller shelf at the library, but I don't know anyone who has read it yet. I'm hoping on of my kindred spirit patrons will check it out and I can ask their opinion on it. I have new author fears.

  13. I need to check out Sherlock. Everyone's on it and I haven't seen an episode yet. It's probably better than Downton Abbey at this point. cheers.
